Emporia-Greensville Recreation Association generates about 40% of its $150,000 budget with registration fees for team sports and concessions. Still, the fees, generally about $25, pay less than half the cost of most sports and the non-profit organization is funded by the City of Emporia and County of Greensville. As an example, the cost for baseball was $19,000 and softball cost another $19,000 last year for a total of $38,000. Total income from fees for the two sports generated only $16,700. Still, EGRA fees have only been raised a few times since the Association was reorganized in 1973. The program is possible because of hundreds of volunteer coaches and a few part-time employees.
